The aim is to determine whether an individual's use of alcohol and/or drugs presents a concern. This assessment involves a comprehensive interview with the evaluator using the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). It covers seven key domains in the person's life: general information, medical history, employment and support systems, substance use, legal matters, family and social relationships, and psychiatric well-being. This evaluation enables us to collect data spanning the individual's lifetime, while also delving into their experiences over the 30 days leading up to the assessment.
Safety-sensitive employees who receive a positive DOT-regulated alcohol or drug test result are mandated to undergo a substance abuse evaluation before they can resume safety-sensitive duties. It's essential that employees are promptly removed from their positions and promptly engage with a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional, adhering to the recommendations provided by the evaluator. These evaluations must be conducted by a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional in accordance with (49 CFR Part 40 Section 40.291).
At Just Breathe Counseling, Consulting, and Coaching, PLLC, our Qualified SAP has been delivering these crucial services since October 2006, ensuring that safety-sensitive employees receive the support and guidance they need to safely return to their duties.
We offer mentorship for qualified Substance Abuse Professionals seeking guidance and consultation regarding 49 CFR Part 40, the comprehensive regulations governing Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs. Mastering Subpart O, which focuses on Substance Abuse Professionals and the Return-to-Duty Process, is only the beginning.
Considering the intricate guidelines of six DOT agencies—the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and the United States Coast Guard—keeping abreast of it all can be overwhelming for Substance Abuse Professionals. We provide assistance with practice forms, processes, and guidance on business and marketing development.
Our one-on-one mentoring sessions are both highly informative and interactive, tailored to address your specific requirements. Graciela Vela, a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional since October 2006, brings 17 years of expertise in the return-to-duty process, ensuring you receive comprehensive and personalized support.
